Known for poetic imagery, Gebhardt’s cinematic works explore the raw and the playful in human stories whilst traversing multiple art forms including dance, documentary and performance.

In acknowledgment of exceptional screen work, Gebhardt was awarded Kodak Australia’s New Director of 2008 and nominated for the Rising Talent Award at the IF Awards after graduating from a Masters in Directing at AFTRS.

In 2016, Gebhardt launched a new series of video artworks at MONA FOMA, as well making the visuals for Kate Miller- Heidke's concert with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, winning The Helpmann Award for Best Australian Contemporary Concert.

In 2014, Gebhardt directed Second Unit on Macbeth, starring Michael Fassbender, which premiered in competition at Cannes Film Festival 2015. Gebhardt is a 2014 recipient of the Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship, given to select artists who demonstrate outstanding talent and exceptional courage in their practice.

Gebhardt has directed several documentaries for ABC and SBS, including Heart as part of the Matchbox Films’, winning won Best Short Documentary at MIFF. Through this body of work, Gebhardt was awarded a mentorship with director, Dr George Miller.  In 2009, Gebhardt's VB Anzac Memories campaign won a Silver Lion at Cannes.
